Irish poet Seamus Heaney, born 4/13/1939, is known for his critically praised 1999 translation of Beowulf. His own poetry had already earned him the 1995 Nobel Prize for Literature "for works of lyrical beauty and ethical depth, which exalt everyday miracles and the living past."
