Biography's Source:

Born in 1929, George H. Scithers graduated from West Point and Stanford University, where he learned the electrical engineering skills that kept him running until he found his true vocation as an editor. He has won two Hugo awards as the founding editor of Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine, where his editorial presence was generally so sedate that only his friends in fandom suspected his love of outrageous wordplay rivaled or surpassed that of the Good Doctor himself. (He has been known to answer the phone with "Telephone!" and sign off with "Woof!") He is an influential member of the Hyborian Legion, dedicated to the work of Robert E. Howard (creator of Conan) and won another two Hugos in the Best Fanzine category (1964, 1967) for the Legion's journal Amra, which he published from 1959 to 1982.
