Paul Hoffman of Amersham, England spent ten years as a censor with the British Board of Film Classification (a mind-stretching job, he says, since usually one watches only those movies one naturally finds interesting) before he began, about 1989, to write the stories he ultimately wove into his acclaimed first novel, The Wisdom of Crocodiles. Before it was published he had written a film of the same name, which came out in 1998 starring Jude Law. He has written a BBC miniseries spun off from the book, and many film scripts. Born in 1954, he is married to wife Alexandra and has two children, Victoria and Thomas.
