Author and editor, Wollheim was also a major figure in the early years of science fiction. He was the leader of the Futurians -- a group, active from 1938 to 1945, that included Frederik Pohl, C. M. Kornbluth, Isaac Asimov, and James Blish. Wollheim, who also wrote as David Grinnell and Martin Pearson, was the founder of DAW publishing.
