Biography:

Joanna Richardson (1925-2008) was a translator and prolific biographer of major figures of French and English literature. She became the first non-French winner of the Prix Goncourt in 1989, one of the highest literary awards in France. She wrote books on Baudelaire, Zola and Stendhal, among others, wrote introductions to Victor Hugo's novels and translated the poems of Baudelaire and Verlaine into English.
