Peter Israel wrote four novels of crime in the 1970s (which led Erskine Caldwell to call him "one of the most talented writers of the decade"). After a hugely successful career in publishing, most recently as the Chairman of the Putnam Publishing Group and as the head of his own book-packaging organization, he returned to the mystery scene in 1988 with I'll Cry When I Kill You.
