Biography:

When Sturgeon's story "Nightmare Island" was selected for inclusion in the June, 1941 edition of Unknown, it was published under the pseudonym E. Waldo Hunter, since Sturgeon already had another story included in that edition, "Yesterday Was Monday."

Sturgeon had previously used the pseudonym E. Hunter Waldo in similar circumstances, but apparently forget how his pseudonym was supposed to go in this case. The next issue of Unknown included a letter explaining that "It will no doubt surprise a great many people to learn that I was christened Edward Waldo, and that Hunter is my Grandmother's maiden name. Of course, I was only a kid at the time." The letter is signed "E. Hunter Waldo Hunter."
