Born in Leeds on November 21st 1924, Christopher Tolkien was the youngest son of J.R.R. Tolkien and his wife Edith. He followed in his fathers’ footsteps, becoming a lecturer of English at Oxford University. After J.R.R. Tolkiens' death in 1973 he edited and published much of his fathers unfinished work including The Silmarillion (collaborating with Guy Gavriel Kay), Unfinished Tales and The Children of Hurin.
His oldest son Simon is a barrister and author.
