Biography's Source:

Sir Thomas Malory is the author fo the seminal Arthurian romance, Le Morte d'Arthur. While the specifics of Sir Thomas Malory's life are vague, it is generally assumed that he was born sometime around 1416. Knighted in 1442 as Sir Thomas Malory of Newbold Revell, Warwickshire, he served in the Parliament of 1445. Apparently a rather colorful individual, he is alleged to have committed a series of crimes, including poaching, extortion, robbery, rape and murder. From 1451 onward, a large protion of his life was spent in prison, and it was there that he probably produced most of his writing on the Arthurian saga. The original book was called The Book of King Arthur and His Noble Knights of the Round Table and was made up of eight romances that were more or less separate. In 1485, William Caxton printed the work, renaming it Le Morte d'Arthur, possibly to capitalise on the popularity of earlier French works in the same vein. Malory died in 1471.
