David Copperfield was born in 1956 in Metuchen, New Jersey. His first television special, The Magic of ABC, aired in 1977. From then until now, between his yearly CBS specials, and his 500 live performances per year, he has been seen world-wide by more people than any other illusionist in history, including Houdini.
His celebrated feats and sense of theater have won him numerous Emmys and have led him to be twice named "Entertainer of the Year." Six times he has performed for the President of the United States.
Performing professionally at the ripe age of twelve, David became the youngest person ever admitted into the Society of American Magicians. By the age of sixteen, he was teaching magic at New York University. While still in college, David was cast as the lead in The Magic Man, in which he sang, danced, acted, and created all the magic in what became the longest running musical in Chicago's history.
