Sematicist, teacher, intelligence officer and gun collector, John J. McGuire drew on many lores in concocting his few but fine science-fiction pieces. He was a member of the loose-knit Monmouth County science-fiction colony (George O. Smith, Lester del Rey and Algis Budrys were a few of the others).
