Mark Bastable started out in journalism as a freelancer for the NME then worked in book publishing as a copywriter. He moved into computers and travelled extensively as a systems developer, settling for some time in Amsterdam. Overlooking the canals there, he wrote most of his first novel. He now lives in Tooting, South London; he is a director of a management consultancy, a contributor to Esquire magazine and also writes comedy for TV.
