Silas House's first novel, Clay's Quilt, received a grant from the Kentucky Arts Council in 1997, won first place in the 1998 Kentucky chapter of the National Society of Arts and Letters fiction competition, and was chosen as a finalist for the Appalachian Writers Association Book of the Year. House is a frequent contributor on National Public Radio. He lives in Lily, Kentucky, where his family has lived for generations.
